Fantasy Football
Here is a really long, boring blog on fantasy football.
Im a huge nerd because I like fantasy football. Actually I freaking love it. Im on our league message board multiple times a day. I read all the random fantasy blogs, newsletters, and read the NFL.com team reports daily.
But its really not about the actual game of “fantasy football”
I love competing. but, I really love competing with my friends. even online at make believe football team building.
Just playing fantasy football against a bunch of strangers. Not fun. At all.
Building, managing, and competing against your best friends weekly is a ton of fun. Talking non-stop trash against your best buddies for 17 weeks is even better. and not to sound like a total sap, but we are all a lot closer during the football season because of it.
I also only play in 1 league. People that play in multiple leagues are like people who turn in more than 1 bracket during the NCAA tournament. Wide net casters.
The more you play, the better your odds are of winning a league/bracket.
If you play in 3 leagues of 10-12 teams. The odds of you winning at least one of those leagues is a lot greater. In our league, you are encouraged not to play in other leagues, but if you do…you cant mention it or brag about it. Only 2 players (out of 12) play in other leagues.
play in enough leagues… youll win one
fantasy is like poker, some luck. some not. Im not going to lie and act like my 3 year streak of winning my league is all skill.
(on the luck side…) Injuries play a big part. But, to be fair, so do match ups and finding vulnerable people in your league that you can crack for one sided trades.
anyway, I love it.
Fantasy football is like playing dodgeball, or watching that show Wipeout. Everyone claims they are, or would be great at it.
Everyone.
I dont claim to be good at it. I claim to do a lot of meaningless reading and research. and then putting myself in a good place to get lucky. and Im on a good multi year run of that. I do claim to be a huge nerd.
Opening myself to much scrutiny from a lot of so called “experts” out there… here is my draft.
had the 8th pick in a snake draft. Pretty late in the 1st round. 12 teams. here are my round by round picks for the first 10 rounds and any other nutty picks I made
Round 1 - Aaron Rodgers (we play in a 6pt TD league for QBs)
Round 2- DeAngelo Williams
Round 3 - Miles Austin
Round 4 - Wes Welker (took a real chance here. was going to take Arian Foster, but he was taken 1 pick ahead of me)
Round 5 - Jermichael Finley (took him as the 2nd overall TE. Feeling he is going to be HUGE in GreenBay this year)
Round 6 - Jerome Harrison (later drafted Montario Hardesty in case he takes the spot)
Round 7 - LT (have had him the last 3 years. and Hard Knox has me convinced that he is going to get a decent amount of touches)
Round 8 - Johnny Knox (surprised he fell this far. loved getting him. In a new pass happy offense in Chi as the #1 WR)
Round 9 - Chad Henne (solid backup QB)
Round 10 - Jets D
I also picked up a couple guys that are getting a lot of training camp hype. Mike Williams the rookie WR from Tampa. and Kareem Huggins, the guy who just took over the #2 RB spot there .
Injured Sidney Rice was my 16th round pick. He’ll sit for a while until I figure out if he’s done for 8 weeks or the entire year.
Nerd alert over.

Best Buy needs to pay me for this commercial.
One of those 2 will be filling in for Amy on Fridays show.
To the 2 finalists, you have until 5:30p today to submit a picture, video, smoke signal, etc showing how big of a show fan you are. The winner gets the shot tomorrow morning!
Good luck

I took this picture with my phone. randomly. a few weeks ago. But I left it on my desktop for a while because it makes me laugh.
I think a lot about getting old(er). Now that Im 30, I no longer feel the invincibility that I did when I was in my young 20s. Also, the commercials on Lifetime say that your bones start to deteriorate in your mid 30s. Apparently, I dont have long.
The thing is, I feel no different than when I was 25. I have a little more money. Go to bed a little earlier. But pretty much, I enjoy the same things.
And I always want to feel young enough to enjoy really, really dumb things
Like leaving a nice dinner. Finding a football in the trunk of the car. and throwing it across the parking lot into the back of a friends truck. Competing. For money.
That would have been fun to me at 18, 25, and still at 30.
I still hope I still do dopey things like that at 45.
a blog about a great intern.
Twice a year, we get new groups of interns. Which means twice a year, old groups retire. (oddly, most interns find ways to stay more than one semester. sometimes even 3 semesters. and unpaid).
and in my years of doing the morning show, we’ve had some good ones. Two of them are my producers right now (Carlos, Alayna).
One was a producer but moved off to get married (Megan)
Others have gone on to do radio shows in other states (Angela).
Some are pursuing music careers (Tje Austin).
Some are still keepin’ it real in the daily workforce (Intern Paul Wall).
And others are still trying to make it in media (Jordie is trying TV reporting).
This week, one of my finest interns is leaving the the show!
Karina is retiring from the Bobby Bones Show intern force. She has done so much for the show over the past year. She has filled in as producer when Alayna was sick, produced music videos, written tons of games, and has just been awesome to work with.
She for sure gets inducted into the intern Hall Of Fame. Only a few have received that “honor”. So here are a few great things that Karina has done since she has been with the show. I wont post them all, but these stuck out to me…
She made me this video on my birthday. and spent at least a month putting it together!

Karina had all the interns over at her house to watched Bandslam. The movie that I was in

Here is a video called Intern Family.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvliyzpDBJA
and randomly a video (with greg) parodying one of my favorite movies from last year (500 days of summer)

And she’s only a sophomore in college! Hopefully, one day Ill get to hire her for a real job.
thanks, Karina

When I was 11, this was my favorite song. and favorite movie. They just dont make hits like this anymore.
5 saddest songs to my ears…
I dont listen to a lot of country music. Occasionally, when Im driving back home to Arkansas and its the only type of station you can pick up… Ill tune it in.
I was flipping through stations this weekend on the way to the Ben Folds concert and a song called “Cowgirls dont cry” came on the country station. It was pretty catchy, about a girl who falls off a horse and her dad tells her not to cry.
Basically because she’s a cowgirl … and they apparently arent allowed to cry.
next thing you know, she’s married. hates her husband. wants to cry. but, again. she cant.
and then out of nowhere. (spoiler alert) BAM. the girls dad dies! and even then SHE ISNT ALLOWED TO CRY.
So it was sad. Real sad. Here is the video if you’d like to catch up. Its #5 on my list of saddest songs.
#5 Brooks and Dunn (with Reba) - Cowgirls Don’t Cry by

#4 Ben Folds - Brick
A song about an abortion that Ben Folds girl had. he was with her. at 6am. On the day after Christmas.
When I was a young kid in radio, I tried to play this song at exactly 6am, the day after Christmas (I always had to work holidays). If I got just one person listening to say “holy crap, that’s today and right now!”, I did my job successfully.
so yeah, abortion. so its sad.

#3 The Verve Pipe - Freshman
This was pretty much their only hit. But it was awesome. and I just thought it was about getting picked on in 9th grade. I was 17. and had recently been a freshman myself. He was speaking to me!
Obviously, I was only listening to the part of the song that goes “we were merely freshman”. Because it wasnt about getting stuffed in lockers. Or swirlies.
Again, it was about abortion! and his girlfriend committing suicide. The addition of suicide allowed it overtake Brick for the #3 Spot.

#2 Newsong - The Christmas Shoes
This song sucks (secretly I like it). but It sure is sad. He just wants to buy his mom some shoes before she dies! The kids mom is minutes away from being gone forever and he heads out to the store to make sure she looks pretty when Jesus sees her.
Tell me that crap doesnt make you sad. And its true!

#1 Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton
Don’t read Eric Claptons book. I did. It blows. Its way too long. and takes too long to get into anything somewhat interesting. I hate when celebrities write books and spend 6 chapters on years 1-9. He wasnt adopted, he didnt lose an arm in a sewing machine, nor did his papaw touch him anywhere funny. Waste of 100 pages.
So Im reading this book, bored out of my mind. and I forgot all about his son dying (why the song even exists).
Clapton writes about this high rise apartment in NY. His kid was up there. The housekeeper didnt lock the window after cleaning it. The 4 year kid walked right to and and fell through. And he died.
How freaking sad.
Ugh.
I had heard the story before reading the book, but after reading it in Claptons words…it made it a lot more real.
go watch this video after hearing that story. It makes you feel sad again.
